As you’ve been informed (and I had NO idea!) … today was my birthday!

For my birthday, Abigail and I had plans to go to breakfast and then to thrift shops because I LOVE thrifting and don’t get to do it much). Jared and Cecily were so sweet to offer to stay home to babysit for me. (I have such loving and wonderful kids!) You can click on the picture to watch their Happy Birthday to me.

But let me back up… I woke up at 6:00 am and realized I had a headache.
BUMMER! I haven’t had a headache in at least 2, maybe even 3 months. But for some reason today – my birthday – I woke up with one. It wasn’t horrible, so I got up and took some ginger and apis mel, and sprayed cayenne up my nose (YOWPAH!). Usually that combination will lick a headache, but this morning it didn’t do so well for me.
Anyway, after loading up on supplements, I went to get in the bathtub. I put the stool with a towel on it next to the tub to set my iphone on. It’s my routine. Today – I stepped into the tub and before I set my iPhone down it slipped out of my hand and INTO the tub! I picked it up SUPER FAST! It wasn’t in there more than a couple of seconds. The phone seemed perfectly fine so I dried it off, blew it off… and continued to do my morning thing.
About 30 minutes later… my phone starting showing signs of injury… tonight it’s still broken… so I think it’s a goner! Boo hoo!
Doesn’t seem like a great way to start ones birthday eh? So, the rest of the day I was phone-less (and will be until I figure out what I’m going to do).
As we were on our way to breakfast, I really thought I was going to be sick – but after taking a Tylenol, Benadryl and eating some breakfast, I started to feel better. YAY! Starbucks was next and I was feeling pretty good by then.

The “Value Center” in downtown Wichita was ridiculously over-priced for most things, but we did find a few things – like this cool hat for Jared. (We found the shirt at another store. LOVE that combo!)

This building was right next to the thrift store and I thought it was really cool – so I took a picture, of course!
Don’t you think it’s cool?

I think we went to a total of about 7-8 thrift stores. Two of them on our list were either closed or out of business. We found fun stuff at both of these stores.

This store had a cute name (Pink Door – What Not Shop) and was a charming store, but we left without buying anything.

We jaywalked … going from one store to another that was across the street. We felt so free and wild! ha!

We were on our way to this store.

Midday – we went to On the Border and ate too much. We both skipped dinner.

We went to Barnes and Noble… and then our last stop was World Market. I love that place! I bought a gray scarf, a Cream Soda, some Pumpkin Seeds, Cinnamon Almonds and some earrings.

When I got home and checked my email, I realized Abigail had a put up a post! I felt so special as I read all of your comments. I read EACH ONE out loud to my family. You guys just warmed my heart with your kindness. Thank you so so much!!! And I’m sexy! ha ha!!! Abigail took this picture of me smiling through all of the comments. ![]()

And this is what we bought…

Here’s a closer view (yes, those are turquoise Converse for Jonas! Aren’t they groovy?)

And here is a vlog we did when we got home… to talk about the day. I love you guys and want to say THANK YOU for making my birthday extra special!

Glad you had a great day! I loved Abigails post:)
Bummer about your headache-I’m all for natural remedies, but cayenne pepper in my nose? No thanks… Yowpah, really.
{actually, I have used cayenne to ward off a cold before. Pretty helpful, so I’m sure it’d work…}
Thrift Shopping sounds like a cool idea for a birthday! My mom would love it:)
Cayenne pepper gives a serious adrenaline rush. ha! Crazy, thrilling, but most importantly, it really works. ha!
Ok, from now on, I shouldn’t comment on a post before I watch the vlog because then I have to comment twice! :O
My sister dropped my phone in a cup of ice water once and we put it in rice for about a day and it’s fine. Crossing my fingers for ya!
Loved that the computer screen kept turning off during… Funny:)
Oh, Happy Birthday! That sounds like the PERFECT day! Thrift stores and On The Border? It just doesn’t get better than that! Happy Birthday, Love!
I agree! That’s all the best stuff!
Thanks for the birthday wishes Kate!
Love,
Lynnette
Happy Birthday! Sounds like an amazing day!! Minus the headache of course. But starbucks. Yummers!
I left my iphone out in the rain ( accidentally of course) put it in rice for the day when I found it again and it worked great. Fingers crossed for you. Also my son dropped his into a vat of heavy oil and did the same thing. It worked not bad either after that.
Love your finds and your feelings of recklessness. Hahaha
Also LOVE Abigail’s post. The girl is so funny. Love her and I don’t even know her.
So what I like about you is your down to earthness (word?? oh well it fits).
You totally make me feel like I am in your house visiting and we are the dearest of friends, chuckling over something that your or my children have done.
Thank you for inviting me into your life via the internet.
Well, my phone works almost perfectly, but I can’t see anything because the back light went out. :’( so… I will need to get a new one. I was getting ready to upgrade to the new iphone, but now I won’t be able to sell my phone as working, so it was like throwing $150 away. Life. It’s a small thing. Truly.
I wish we could visit in my house over coffee. Maybe someday.
Love,
Lynnette
PS Thanks for the birthday wishes!
What a fun day! I love thrift shopping.

Hope you got my email! Looks like you really had a fun day! I have a son who’s coveting those turquoise converse
Got it and responded!
Thanks Claudine!
Love you.
You all are one of my favorite families! I love how close you are and I especially love the relationship you and Abigail have. How FUN that you two got to spend the day like that, exploring all of the treasures in Thrift Shops! And your older children watching the younger ones – I would expect nothing less of them because that’s just how they are.
Belated Happy Birthday!
Gonna check out Jared’s new CD…
Thanks Debbi!
It was a super fun day.
Love,
Lynnette
Happy birthday! Glad it was a great day… even after a rocky start! What a sweet daugher to secretly post for your birthday!
I know – I loved that!
Thanks Natalie!
Love,
Lynnette
Happy Birthday! WooHoo! I am so glad you overcame your headache. I have a son who has migraines so I am totally curious = are your migraines, too? We’ve found caffeine really helps.
There are years where the little guys have been so put out that I reschedule my birthday to another day. I am so glad yours was so perfect!
No, I don’t get migraines. In fact, I don’t get headaches much at all… that’s why it was so weird that I would get one on my birthday!
I’m sorry your son gets migraines. Anna used to get migraines. My momma gets migraines too. I feel very spared in that way.
Thanks for the birthday wishes!!
Love,
Lynnette
Happy Birthday for yesterday, glad you has a fun day, I love those shops too but over here they’re called Charity Shops and are full of bargains( books especially !
Thanks for sharing!
Jo
Really? They aren’t called “Thrift shops”? I think it’s funny how different things are across the country.
Thanks for the birthday wishes!
Love,
Lynnette
My goodness! What fun! (Can I share your daughter?? I have 4 girls but none are much into “treasure hunting” at thrift stores.)
I like to “strew” my loot across the table and take pictures of it all, too! (in case you didn’t know, “strew” is the present tense of the word “strewn.” Ok, maybe it’s not but I like it!)
Sure. She loves it too – although not quite as much as I do. Cecily is learning. She is sort of a home body and only likes to leave when the whole family is going.
Jared actually really enjoys thrifting too. But, he usually just looks at music, movies and books.
ha!
Enjoy strewing!
Love,
Lynnette
HA! It IS a word!!
According to the “Free Online Dictionary” strew means:
1. To spread here and there; scatter: “strewing flowers down the aisle”
2. To cover (an area or a surface) with things scattered or sprinkled
Now I am going to see how many times I can legitimately say “strew” today…
HA! Too funny! (This reminded me of me.)
Lynnette “Suzi”
So very glad you had a lovely day with Miss Abigail… thrifting…and coffeeing…and On The Bordering! Etc.
I tried to call you a couple of times but your phone just took my messages. I sure hope it will be ok after it jumped into the bath! That is interesting about burying it in rice to dry it out!!! I truly hope it will work!
Soooo very sorry about the headache…I absolutely HATE it when I get a headache…BUT it would be AWFUL to wake up with one on your Birthday! (Not talking about Kyle here!) HA! (Get it?)
LOVED the VLOG…of course I am the Mom/Grandma…so I am very partial !!! But truly …you two gals brighten my life!

Momma Sue
No, I didn’t get it. Duh? Explain please.
Oh wait. Just got it.
And this is why I didn’t get a YOWPAH! text message when I told you I got our Women of Faith tickets AND that we have AMAZING seats!!!!!!
Love ya!
Michelle
Tree Avatar: Frazzled…lol!
Yeah. That’s why.
SO YOWPAH!
First, the headache, I woke up with one, too {and so did Brad}, and so did one of the high school girls who works with me in Bible Club…it’s allergies because of the wicked wind and dryness…ick! Hope you are not having one today, mine is better
.
Second, “thrift” stores in this area – I find most of them to be over-priced. What is it with the middle of the country? We are apparently really proud of our old stuff!
Third, I am glad you had a wonderful birthday, and found some finds {haha}, and got to eat cheesecake, and got to hang out with your
vainbeautiful daughter!Love ya!!
So, allergies sounds like the culprit. I struggled off an on for a couple days – better now.
I like to go to the odd ones that aren’t. The little stores – like Assistance League and Second Blessing Thrift, etc., are cheap.
Thanks sis!
Love you.
Lynnette
Sounds like an awesome fun day (aside from the headache and phone!!)
Happy Birthday!
Absolutely!
Thanks CJ!
I loved all the pictures! I wish we had thrift shops nearby like that! So fun! Sounds like a great day!!
You don’t have thrift stores? I wouldn’t want to live without thrift stores!
Aw, shoot! I didn’t know… should’ve stopped by sooner…..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LYNNETTE! {Late but still full of bloggy friend love and blessings.}
Where is that Treasure Chest thrift store?? I googled it but not finding anything for some reason. Are these all in the same part of town, or spread out all over? {Apparently, I like thrift stores, too. Haha!}
You two are silly. I like your silly posts. They make me smile… and I need smiles right now. I like to come here for silliness and smiles.

There’s a DAV right across the street too!
Hope you’re doing okay Diana (“I need smiles right now”). Thanks for the birthday wishes friend.
Love,
Lynnette
Snap! I missed it yesterday! So, a day late, Happy Birthday! Woot-woot! Sounds like a wonderful day! And yes, I LOVE the red building – that would be a cool background for photos!
Ditto to what someone else said about putting your phone in rice. I’ve had a couple of friends save their phones that way!
I’m glad somebody else appreciates that old, worn out red building.
Seems like the old, worn out things often have the most charm. I hope that’s me someday. ha ha!
The rice didn’t save my phone. Bummer! It actually works perfectly well, but the backlight is out, so I can’t see any of it working. I plan to upgrade soon though. Good thing my contract was up so I can get a new phone at a discount. That’s something to give thanks for!
Have a lovely day Coby. Thanks for the birthday wishes!
Love,
Lynnette
It sounds like you had a great birthday even though it started a little rough…
Happy Happy 43rd birthday!
Thanks Joni!
Happy, happy birthday my beautiful, talented, loving, God-fearing, talented friend and “sister”! Love you much!
Thank you sweet lady.
I love you Lisa.
Lynnette
Happy *Late* Birthday,Lynnette!!!
It was our 18th Anniversary on your birthday!
Thanks! And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Yay for you!
That sounds like a perfectly lovely day!! My oldest daughter is 10 now and I hope that when she is the same age as your daughter we will be as happy together as the two of you
LOVE that snap of Abigail in the car! Beautiful
I hope so too Faith! Just love her pieces and be open, honest, and real with her, and you’ll have a great relationship. My girlies and all my sons are treasures.
Love,
Lynnette
Happy belated birthday Lynnette!! Sorry I missed saying it on the 6th. Looks like you all had a blast. Shame on Abigail if she made you wait an entire year to make cheesecake again. Such long suffering
.. I love cheese cake. World market is great, I have some cool Christmas ornaments from there.
ha! That cheesecake is hard to make! It’s out of a Martha Stewart cookbook, and you know how she likes to labor over food! It’s SO good though! Oh my goodness! so good!
so, I totally missed all of this birthday fun because I’ve been crazy busy and haven’t visited my google reader in about a week. anyway… I want to wish you a late happy birthday!!! It looks like you had a wonderful day with your family. Happy Birthday!!!!
I missed commenting on your bday b/c im so far behind but looks like a fun day even though it didn’t start out the best.
